No reports of health or other issues have come to the attention of the newsletter.
Please keep all of our folks who are recovering from lingering problems in your thoughts and prayers along with our troops wherever they may be serving. Blessings to all,
From the Commandant
Marines:
Any Detachment in the Marine Corps League is an unique organization. We experience bonding experiences that are rivaled by few other organizations. However, one area we have in common with many church, civic, government or business groups is the polarity that exists in most. The polarity that I speak of is one of commitment. Most organizations have those who are committed to the group 24/7. From their perspective, they have difficulty understanding why everyone does not devote the time and resources to the mission that they do. Likewise, members of an entity may only want to participate on a casual basis and need to feel acceptance at whatever their level of contribution.
The North Georgia Mountain Detachment of the Marine Corps League has the broad wingspan to encompass both sides. In an attempt to mitigate misunderstandings, the Detachment now has a 'Member-at-Large' to whom issues can be aired in a confidential manner. This should help balance our commitment to camaraderie and service. Details on this will be presented at our August meeting.

Programs and Activities
Care Packages. Please be reminded to bring items for care packages for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Beef jerky, tobacco products, popular magazines, drink mixes, packaged goodies, canned fruit, baby wipes, and hygiene products are in high demand. Movie DVDs and Music CDs are also valued items. When needed, members are directed to get names of recipients from www.anymarine.com, from which you can retrieve two names per day for a total of ten names during a given month.
